Newsgroup Instructions

In unix,

  • Open up an xterm
  • Once you have a prompt, type pine
  • If you've never opened pine before, a greeting will be presented which can be exited by typing 'e'
  • Scroll down to 'setup' and hit return
  • Type the letter 'c' for config
  • Scroll down to nntp-server hit return
  • Type for that value: "news.berkeley.edu" without the quotations, and hit return.
  • Type the letter 'e' to exit setup, and type 'y' to agree to commit the changes.
  • Scroll down to "Folder List" and hit return.
  • Scroll down to News on news.berkeley.edu and hit return
  • Type the letter 'a' to add a newsgroup, and type "ucb.class.cs61a" without the quotations, followed by hitting return.
